About sexuality

Humans are part of the living beings who reproduce sexually. That is, you need a male and a female to come together in order to get a child.

Nature has given our species the gift of enjoying sexuality in both body and spirit.

We should not deny sexual orientation as an unalienable and normal part of humanity.

On the other hand we should stop discriminating people who deviate from that norm.

I suggest the following definitions.

sexual orientation

An enduring pattern of emotional, romantic and sexual attractions developed as the result of a complex interplay of genetic, hormonal, and environmental influences.

homosexuality

The sexual orientation of a human feeling sexually attracted by other humans of same sex.

bisexuality

The sexual orientation of a human feeling sexually attracted by other humans of both sexes.

sexual identity

How one thinks of oneself in terms of to whom one is sexually attracted.

transgender

The fact of having a gender identity or gender expression that differs from the assigned sex.

homophobia

A range of negative attitudes and feelings like contempt, aversion, hatred or antipathy toward homosexuality or humans who are identified or perceived as being lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT), based on ignorance and irrational fear, often related to religious beliefs.

About homosexuality

If we assume that the main purpose of a human is to reproduce, the optimal sexual orientation for a man is to perceive women as attractive and for a woman to perceive men as attractive. This optimal orientation avoids individuals wasting energy in sexual efforts towards a partner of same sex, (which would be useless). Accordingly, we should repress and regard as insane any human with a non-optimal orientation.

But if we believe that the meaning of life is more complex than having children, things get more complex.

While homosexuality is a deviation from norm, it is not itself a source of negative psychological or social effects. There is no reason to feel guilty about being homosexual, and there is no valid reason to reject homosexual humans from society. Homosexuality is an exciting phenomena at social, ethic and scientific level and an enrichment for humanity.

Homosexual humans are not disabled. They can marry and unite with a human of opposite sex and have biological children.

There are cases where homosexual orientation could be changed at least partly into a heterosexual orientation.

Homosexual humans sometimes refrain from openly identifying as such due to homophobia and heterosexist discrimination.

Homosexual behavior has also been documented and is observed in many non-human animal species.

Sexual identity

Transsexual people experience a gender identity that is inconsistent with their biological sex. This is either a man who would prefer to be a woman, or a woman who would prefer to be a man.

A transsexual individual who desires to permanently transition to the gender with which they identify (usually seeking medical assistance including hormone replacement therapy and other sex reassignment therapies) is likely to suffer from side effects which might be more problematic than the original problem.

Sexual disorders are neither sin nor normal

In 2017 there were still humans of moral authority who publicly declared that homosexuality is a “sin”. In 2017 there were still humans who seriously considered suicide as the only solution for their sexual disorder.

On the other hand, the sexual identity and orientation of an individual have deep influences on its life and cannot be changed at will without generating serious other problems.

Artificial reproduction

There are technological variants of the natural reproduction process. Most of these were developed to help couples who cannot have children the natural way. We can, at least theoretically, imagine to mass-produce human beings for industrial purposes.
