About burnout, community and long-term projects

Tuesday, April 27, 2021. Two thoughts that made my hope grow today.

“The cure for burnout is not “self-care”; it is all of us caring for one another. (…) to prevent burnout we don’t only need to increase the resilience of individuals. We need to engage in building an empathetic, caring, and kind community in which mutual support and care are a standard and in which showing recognition and appreciation is easy and common.” – Natalia Szafran-Kozakowska in Why we taught wikimedians how to breathe mindfully. And what you should know if you want to do the same.

“Don’t think in weeks or months, but in years, if not decades. Enjoy your successes, but don’t overestimate their long-term impact. Don’t overestimate the impact of setbacks, either. And always plan your activities in a way that they can survive the point at which you personally lose interest in them.” – Reinhard Müller in 20 Years FSFE: Interview with Reinhard Müller
