A strange kind of boss

I had a short meeting with Sharif about #4356. Two days ago, Sharif had commented: “After some rethinking and some triages on this, I believe this issue is related to application code. @hannes you can chill on this and leave it up to me for the moment.” I had replied “@8lurry tell me more about this. Otherwise I won’t believe this.” Now he showed me how to reproduce the problem locally, I saw it with my own eyes. Now I believe. It is probably a bug in his own code (in the lino.modlib.elastic to be exact). So he can indeed work on this. He will manage, he just needs some time. I don’t need to help him further.

“Tubli poiss!” I exclaimed. How to translate this correctly? Google suggests “good boy!”, but I don’t agree because “good boy” would be rather “Hea laps!” in Estonian.

I then spoke Sharif during about five minutes about my own projects.

When I said goodbye, I added “Greetings to your family!”. He said “Of course”. I replied “Of course? I don’t think that this is ‘of course’. A normal boss does not ask their employee to greet their family when they go home. I start to realize that I have never been a normal boss. Also with Hamza and Tonis I was a strange kind of boss. Also for our customers I am a strange kind of service provider.”

Maybe that’s why I am so fascinated with the topic of synodality: it opens a door in my heart where lot of ideas have been waiting to come out, some of them are more than 20 years old. I have been pregnant with these ideas and now the birth labour starts…
