Is Great Britain going to vanish?

“Nations are imagined communities, and sometime they unimagine themselves. It can happen very quickly.” In his blog post How Nations Vanish (2019-12-09), Philip Jenkins shared his interesting thoughts about how to define a nation state.

Being himself a Welsh who became American, he looks at the Brexit and the breakdown of the Soviet Union. “Only when something like that happens do we realize just how thoroughly our identity is tied up with that theme of nationhood, of nationality, of patriotism. In the words of the prophet Joni, you really don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone.”
